5 Commenting Systems for WordPress Bloggers to Avoid Bad SEO

I don’t think there are that many flaws and disadvantages of using the default WordPress commenting system, many web-masters still rely upon it, and aren’t thinking about alternatives just yet. Though, those who’re more conscious of how Google ranks pages, might want to reconsider!

Learning to understand what is the ‘rel=nofollow’ tag isn’t going to take up a lot of time, but its important that you fully understand the context, before saying that WordPress comments are great! They’re, but any link that gets submitted through the WordPress comment system is automatically tagged with the ‘rel=nofollow’ tag.

WordPress Default Comments

In many cases, that is nothing to worry about, but once your pages are starting to receive hundreds of comments, it’s going to build up hundreds of links that don’t have any real value, so why are they there in the first place – the search engine crawler is going to wonder.

It doesn’t just come down to that either, many of the alternative commenting systems on this list provide a much better community feel and experience than the default comment system ever would, not to mention that there are big benefits for gaining social traffic, in volumes that you didn’t get before. Here is a list of five alternative commenting platforms for WordPress bloggers:

Facebook Comments

Facebook Comments

Facebook is the biggest social network in the world, hands down. It has a monthly visitor ratio that spans into the high-hundred millions, and continues to be the digital home for many internet citizens. Facebook offers a Comment widget that can be integrated on any website, and also WordPress blogs.

The advantages of using this comment system is that you get to see who the actual commenters are, and what their Facebook profiles look like. It might help to fight off trolls and those who only leave negative comments. You’ll find it very easy to setup by using this WordPress plugin.

Google+ Comments

Like Facebook, Google+ is also a very large online community, and has nearly 400 million active monthly users. In the recent year, they decided to roll out a separate Google+ comments system that any webmaster can take advantage of. In the first few months, many people were thinking it would have a great deal of SEO benefit to use the Google+ comments system, but it turns out it has roughly the same value.

I’ve used Google+ comments for a little while, but didn’t find the design capabilities to be in sync with what I desire, or should I say – what my community desires.

Disqus

disqus

It’s the one comment system that I’ve fallen in love with. I’ve been a Disqus member for two years personally, and have been using the actual comments system on my blog for a little over 10 months. It has been a wise choice, and I find that my quality of comments has improved immensely over the months.

These days, I don’t worry about someone not being able to leave comments, as Disqus enables Guests to leave their opinion as well. Plus, it has actionable buttons that allow for social logins, making it very easy to signup and comment. A great comment system for anyone who cares about community aspect of their brand / business.

Livefyre

Livefyre has been in the market for a few years now, and from my personal experience – I’ve seen it being very admired on large media outlets, news sites, and generally websites that deal with a lot of requests at once. The best becomes even better with Livefyre Community Comments. The platform was designed from the ground-up for the social web, turning your blog into the hub of engagement.

Moderate live from the stream, and see a complete history of all actions. Oh, and donít forget, thanks to real-time machine-learning protection your comments are basically spam-free.

IntenseDebate

Intense Debate is a blog commenting system that supports Typepad, Blogger and WordPress blogs. The system allows blog owners to track and moderate comments from one place with features like threading, comment analytics, user reputation and comment aggregation.

Intense Debate offers blog readers a powerful networking system to establish reputations, link their profiles, make friends and syndicate their comments. It will create a “mini-blogging platform” that will hold commenters responsible for their comments across various blogs. I’m sure the service will help jumpstart a couple superstar commenter careers.

Commenting Systems for WordPress

It’s not just about bad SEO, comments are often the place where your community begins to form. We’ve all been there, the first couple of months with no comments at all, and then all of a sudden – you’re getting like 20-30 new comments for all the posts you submit. It becomes crazy, and in order to make sense out of it – we need a good commenting system, like any of those that we’ve covered in this list!
